The Daily Roundup-Saturday

The Basketblog Docket:

The ACC Basketblog sends our deepest condolences to Coach Bruce Webber who's mother passed away yesterday in the hospital after complaining of chest pain while attending her son’s first round game against Northwestern.

Dave Sez is on top of things again and provides a national perspective on those ACC teams whose bubble hopes are still alive, and those who have walked the plank. Get over there!

A little needle to the heart of Carolina fans from Scott over at the very good Georgia Tech Sports Blog. The Basketblog sees you, Scott. Get over there!

A very nice breakdown of NC State's big win yesterday by the good folks over at StateFansNation....and even a little (very little) credit to Herb. The Basketblog is with you, State Fans....he still needs to go. Get over there!

Breaking RPI News from Ken Pomeroy (well, not really. Breaking for us since it kind of got lost in our shuffle of information). At any rate, good stuff so.....get over there!

Who are the #1 seeds? YoCo knows. Get over there!

Could this be the best group of Mid Majors ever? Perhaps, according to the Hoops Junkie. Get over there!

The Headlines:

North Carolina gets a clue (hustle, hustle, and hustle) just in time and holds off a deserving Clemson Tigers team. What can you say about job Oliver Purnell has done with Clemson over that last month or so. Congrats Tigers. Heels..........

Raymond Felton was a man in the last 10 minutes of that ball game yesterday. Tar Heels need consistent play from this guy for 40 minutes if they want to fulfill their goals.

McCants showed his worth yesterday in Carolina's escape. Caulton Tudor says such escapes may not be possible in the future without him.

Georgia Tech takes the Hokies to the woodshed in second half blowout. Jack, Bynum, Elder.....what #1 seed wants to see these guys coming in the second round of the NCAA. Perhaps we will get a preview today when they face eventual #1 seed North Carolina.

Virginia Tech players say they still feel like the outsiders looking in at the ACC Tournament. Give it time, boys, give it time.

Aaron McFarling of the Roanoke News says that in order for Virginia Tech to be ready for the grand stage, they have to bolster their bench.

With Chris Paul's hands securely anchored to the bench, The Jules and Mr. Evtimov go to work on Wake Forest in States best played game of the season.

Note to Chris Paul: Notice how bad you feel this morning, and the NC State players never laid a glove on you. Lenox Rawlings of the Winston Salem Journal says that Wolfpack showed they are experts in the arts of payback.

Wake Forest in now looking ahead to the NCAAs. I'm going to go out on limb and say this: Chris Paul is going to be on fire with emotion and have redemption on his mind. I feel sorry for the teams in their bracket b/c he is going to put on a point guard display of excellence.

The Devils didn't have the type of game we at the Basketblog expected, but they put Virginia away when they had to for a workmanlike victory. We think the party is over for Pete.........the flour is out and the grease is on the stove.

Michael Wilbon of the Washington Post has it right: The best ball is in the ACC.

The Baltimore Sun gives the skinny on the Terps chance to Dance: "Slim to None."

Too much success can spoil a fan base quickly. Just ask Smith, K, G. Williams, R. Williams, and even Final Four participant Hewitt.

David Steele of the Baltimore Sun says that the "lean" ACC only merits 4 bids to the Dance. Sorry, David, but the Basketblog sees 5 getting in with NC State's win last night over Wake Forest.

Frank Dascenzo of the Durham Herald Sun says that these Heels seem to have a knack for the comeback.
