The Daily Roundup: Thursday

The Headlines:

Congress puts spotlight on the Panthers and will use NFL investigation into the team as a test case. Way to go guys.

Frank Dascenzo says that as good as Duke will be next year, nothing is guaranteed. See Duke 1999.

Phil Sheridan of the Charlotte Observer says that the NFL looks better than MLB on the steroid issue....unless you look too closely. The NBA is next.

David Teal of the Daily Press says that Tar Heel exodus is a mixed bag. I really like the statement about 'coffee' at the end of this quote
So North Carolina will not repeat as national champs, will not return to the Final Four and may struggle merely to qualify for the NCAA tournament. Much hinges on the program's four incoming freshmen: Marcus Ginyard, Tyler Hansbrough, Danny Green and Bobby Frasor.

The latter three are McDonald's All-Americans, and having seen Ginyard play several times, I can assure you that if he's the weak link, the class is stronger than coffee breath.
I never thought of coffee breath as being strong, but upon further review, I guess it is.

More below the fold.

Holland and Holtz bring a fresh start to ECU athletics.

NC State's Larry Hunter is being considered for the open head coaching position at Western Carolina University (Home of the Birkel).

The BCS mucks up the already murky water some more with their new rule changes granting all teams the chance for automatic bids to BCS games. PLAYOFF!!!!!!!

John Delong brings his views of next years ACC basketball teams in report card fashion. Don't the teams actually have to perform first before you issue a "report card"?

Academic Coast Conference still stands firmly against the NCAA proposed expansion of the football season.

No more Dream Team? Apparently, USA Basketball has decided that in order to get the best talent and the most cohesive and coachable team, a college/pro mix would be best. I still contend that IF our best pros play, it would be no contest. My 5: Shaq, Kobe, T Mac, Jason Kidd, Garnett. Who, in last summers Olympics, was going to beat that 5? Don't agree? Take it to the comments section.

What did we tell you about Andrew Brackman: Brackman faces impending decision between football and baseball. That boy is good!!!

Don't you need to have a construction permit BEFORE you start building? Apparently, the good folks building Clemson's new west end zone didn't quite see things that way. Work has been temporarily halted.

Mixon to the Panthers.

Former Miami receiver Stanley Shakespeare drowns in a boating accident. He was a member of The "U"s first national championship team.

Maryland's Fridge is picking his new QB and trying to add some punch to the offense.

Florida State's Rix leaves a legacy that should be a lesson for all QBs. He is the first QB to start for Coach Bowden and not be drafted. Wow.

Ex Hokies coach Allen eyes job on Dave Leitao's staff at UVa.
