The Daily Roundup: Free Throw Friday

The BEST ACC Basketball Coverage!!!

Getting your mind right:
It's time to start getting selective: "We are on the cusp of the madness of March, the heart and soul of the college basketball season. Yes, we know there are regular-season games that still have tremendous meaning in terms of not only qualifying for the postseason (the NIT guarantees spots for all regular-season conference champions) but for the top NCAA Tournament seeds."

Michael Wilbon of the Washington Post: Terps Still Have a Shot - "Maryland put itself behind the eight ball but still has the area's best shot at an NCAA at-large berth."

The conference headlines:

Economy dictates changes for college athletics : "Local college athletic departments says they are insulated from budget cuts but remain at the mercy of how people spend their dwindling entertainment dollars."

Wake Forest
'Superman' pays a visit : "James Johnson delivered his signature performance to date at Wake Forest and that was all she wrote for N.C. State." Dude is the real deal....NBA Today?

JOHN DELONG of the Winston-Salem Journal: Smith seems to have his free-throw woes solved

Miami
McClinton comes through at right time
: "Jack McClinton scored just 11 points, well below his average, but hit a huge 3-pointer with 47 seconds to play on Thursday night to give Miami a two-possession cushion and the Hurricanes held on to beat Virginia 62-55."

Jack, Canes get job done at Virginia : "I wasn't in Charlottesville for tonight's must-win game for the Canes, but I did catch UM's 62-55 win over Virginia at home and wanted to share a few observations..."

NC State
N.C. State point guards make improvements:"Better ball handling by the point guards has made it possible for N.C. State to play three post players."

Defense aside, Pack making progress: "N.C. State's not a bad team, not since the first seven ACC games anyway, it's just a team with no margin of error."

Virginia
'UVa goes cold at wrong time: "Miami held Virginia without a basket on its last six possessions of the game and pulled away for a 62-55 victory at John Paul Jones Arena."

North Carolina
Tar Heel may have edged Hansbrough for team superlatives: "With his superlative play for most of the season, Ty Lawson seems to have ascended to the top of North Carolina's food chain." I would agree with that. Hansbrough is the most consistent force on the team but Lawson is the MVP. No Lawson=no chance at a championship for the Heels.

Duke
Duke's Smith out indefinitely
: "Duke sophomore reserve guard Nolan Smith is out indefinitely after suffering a mild concussion during Wednesday night's 78-67 win at Maryland, Duke officials announced Thursday afternoon."

Georgia Tech
Spurned QB recruit speaks: "Aycock thought coach Johnson was bluffing, when he threatened to yank his scholarship offer. Whoops."

Story: Postgame: Clemson press pays dividends

Clemson's Dandy Dozen provides no surprises
National Signing Day around the Tigers’ football offices was about as subdued as one could imagine, especially compared to the drama of landing C.J. Spiller and other touted recruits at the deadline the past few years.

Morris: Have faith; the recruits will come
CLEMSON THEY LINED UP at the alter of Dabo Swinney on Wednesday, one by one singing the praises of being a Christian as much as a Clemson Tiger. Like it or not, religion has become a part of college football recruiting, and Clemson appears to be at the forefront of the crusade.

UM breathed life back into its season and ended a three-game losing skid with a blowout victory against seventh-ranked Wake Forest.
